According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Robert Richard Banko, 24, of Ambridge was charged with homicide by vehicle. Police reported the driver was drunk when he struck David Cook, a motorcyclist, with his truck early Sunday, leading to the biker’s death. In addition, Banko was improperly licensed.
Police said the trucker struck Cook head-on at 3:18 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Route 989 and Ridge Road in Harmony, Beaver County, and then fled the scene. Banko was later apprehended by officials and taken back to the scene, where police said he smelled of alcohol. Tests later showed his blood alcohol level at 0.17 percent, more than double the legal limit. The driver faces a preliminary hearing July 25.
